Cuddled up in bed with Ciara and about to become $140 million richer.
Not a bad night for Russell Wilson.
Wilson posted a dimly lit, pillow-talk video on social media early Tuesday with his pop-star wife saying, “Seattle, we got a deal,” shortly after the Seattle Seahawks agreed to make the quarterback the highest-paid player in the NFL.
Wilson will receive a four-year, $140 million contract extension, according to his agent. The per-year average of $35 million tops Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers ($33.5 million) for highest in the league.
Wilson’s new deal runs through the 2023 season and includes a $65 million signing bonus, a no-trade clause and $107 million in guaranteed money.
The 30-year-old Wilson had set a midnight deadline for a new deal with the Seahawks, and they got it done at the wire. After weeks of whispers linking Wilson to the New York Giants -- which in hindsight appear highly tactical -- the new megdeal ends the debate about his future with the Seahawks.
