(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new survey has identified the types of diners who venture out to restaurants during the pandemic.
The survey from the restaurant experience website SevenRooms found customers fall into four different categories:
— “The Pick-Up Patron” - This person will not feel comfortable eating in a restaurant until a COVID-19 vaccine is found.
—“The Safety-Savvy Consumer” - This customer wants a detailed outline of a restaurant’s safety protocols, barriers, hand sanitizer, and covered food.
—“The Tech-Conscious Contactless Diner” - Thirteen percent of respondents said they would only dine in a restaurant that uses contactless dining solutions like virtual waitlists.
—“The Carefree Guest” - Twenty-nine percent of respondents said they were comfortable with indoor dining, while 40% said they were comfortable with outdoor dining.
Doug Roth is the founder of Chicago-based Playground Hospitality. He tells the WBBM Noon Business Hour that restaurant owners are better off identifying one type of customer and serving them well.
"You really have to pick and choose at this juncture and figure out how to maximize your profitabilty," Roth said.
