If the complex orders overheard standing in line at Starbucks involving two pumps of vanilla, a shake of cinnamon and extra whipped cream have taught us anything about coffee drinkers it’s that there are lots of them out there who don’t want their coffee to taste much like…coffee. And Hostess is obliging that crowd with a somewhat head scratching release: Twinkies flavored coffee.
The cream-filled snack is having its flavors packed into single serve pods for your Keurig machines and it isn’t the only one getting the coffee pod treatment. You can also get coffee that tastes like Ding Dongs, Honey Buns and Sno Balls. All the Hostess flavors were spotted by Instagrammer @JunkFoodMom a few days ago.
But what does it mean to have snack cake-flavored coffee? Well, according to the product description, Twinkies coffee allows you to “enjoy the sweet flavors of Twinkies sponge cake combined with notes of creamy icing filling.” Those aren’t exactly the tasting notes you’d expect on your morning cup of joe, but if you’re drinking Twinkies coffee, you probably aren’t the kind of person who uses a gram scale every morning to measure your grinds of Ethiopian single origin.
All four Hostess flavors are available to order online right now from Farm & Fleet for $4.99 for a 12 pack. If it all seems too weird for you though, you could always go the manual route and just set a Twinkie in your cup of coffee until it dissolves. Although, given Twinkies noted ability to outlast the apocalypse you might have to wait a while.
