NEW ORLEANS (WWL.com) -- The New Orleans Pelicans fired general manager Dell Demps on Friday.
The move comes one day after Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis walked out on the team in the middle of a game.
Davis appeared to suffer a minor shoulder injury during Thursday night's game in the Smoothie King Center. He was later seen leaving the arena with his agent.
“We will immediately begin the process of restructuring our basketball operations department,” Pelicans (and New Orleans Saints) owner Gayle Benson said in a statement. “This will include a comprehensive, but confidential, search aided by outside consultants to identify a new leader of our basketball operations, directly reporting to me.”
Davis has made it clear he does not want to play for the Pelicans, and requested a trade to a team he feels can give him the opportunity to win a championship. Demps did not trade Davis before last week's deadline as talks with the Los Angeles Lakers fell apart.
Danny Ferry will take over GM duties in the interim.
