Aaliyah Inghram is no ordinary kid... she's an extraordinary hero.

The 10-year-old was in a Walmart parking lot with her mom, Samantha Tygrit, and her family, when two people started exchanging gunfire in the parking lot.

Without even thinking, Aaliyah started shielding her 18-month-old brother and 15-month-old cousin in the back seat of the family Tahoe with her body, and was struck with a bullet which passed through Samantha's shoulder and lodged itself into Aaliyah's buttocks.

Samantha says if her daughter wasn’t there to protect her brother,  he would have died.

The frightful incident took place last month on May 8th, and just this week Clark County commissioners awarded Aaliyah with a medal for her bravery and named June 5th, "Aaliyah Inghram Day."
