100-Year-Old Woman Reveals Secret To Long Life

SAYVILLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Nancy Walter is feisty and fun, and you would never guess she's celebrating the big 100.

It takes a lot to get through this thing called life, and Walter told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall her secret to making it to three digits during her birthday party at the Bristal Assisted Living Facility in Sayville.

"A glass of prune juice every morning and have a young man every night," Walter said.

All joking aside, Walter said she's lived a long life because she's happy and because of her family.

"I have two great sons, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren," Walter said. "I've really been blessed."

"Just to be good to everybody, be happy, that's the main thing in life. Always smile, be good to people," Walter added.

Her husband, Fred, whom she calls the love of her life, passed away last year.

They were married for 72 years.

The couple got engaged but then had to wait five years to get married because he was drafted and served in the South Pacific.

There were 200 soldiers in his company and Fred was one of 20 who survived and made it back home.

They were so excited to be back together that they got married immediately on New Year's Day. The only place opened was a diner, so they had the wedding there.

Happy 100th birthday, Nancy!
