It was the kind of connection six-year-old Mikey had been holding out for.
After years of asking his parents for a baby brother -- he finally got his wish, and this photo of him cuddling little Jake is melting hearts.
Mikey’s parents Jessica and Michael Marotta had complications arise during their pregnancy. Little Jake was born prematurely at 30 weeks and weighed just one pound, twelve ounces and was only 12 inches long and spent over two months in the NICU. But the touching moment when his big brother, Mikey, got to hold him skin-to-skin was overwhelming for the growing family.
In a blog post on Love What Matters, Jessica says the couple started trying for baby number two when Mikey was three-years-old. "Month after month passed and we got more and more discouraged every time we saw the negative sign on the pregnancy test. My heart would sink when Mikey would ask, 'when am I going to get my baby brother?' It made us so sad for him when he would follow up with, 'I just want my baby brother.'"
Now Jake and Mikey share beautiful matching red hair and an unbreakable bond after waiting for years to be in each other's lives!
Jake is steadily doing better and getting bigger, and the Marotta brothers love to read and play together or just hang out at their Massachusetts home.
