Christopher Meloni's Detective Stabler to Return for 'Law & Order: SVU' Spin-Off

By , The New ALT 105.3

Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler character from "Law & Order: SVU" is set to return to NBC for a new drama from executive producer Dick Wolf. The show is a spinoff of "SVU" and could be part of the "Law & Order" franchise.

Meloni starred alongside Mariska Hagirtay on "SVU" for 12 seasons before his character retired and was written out of the show. That was back in 2011.

This spinoff will feature Stabler back in New York at another NYPD unit and definitely leaves the door open for potential Olivia Benson/Stabler reunions.

Meloni has been working on a series of projects since departing the "SVU" set in 2011. He headlined the Syfy series "Happy!" and Fox comedy series "Surviving Jack." He also starred on the WGN America series "Underground."

He has also since had roles in "True Blood" and "The Handmaid's Tale."

According to Deadline, the new series does not yet have a launch date.
