Max, a 17-year-old deaf and partially blind Australian cattle dog, is being hailed a hero after staying with a missing three-year-old girl overnight in the woods in the cold and rain.
Just last week, the little girl named Aurora had wandered off on her own but the loyal blue heeler wouldn't leave her side for her entire 16 hour adventure. Aurora was reported missing at around 3pm on Friday the 20th and was found at 8am the next morning after more than 100 State Emergency Service volunteers, police and members of the public resumed the search and found safe and sound with Max.
On May 1st, Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant James Deacon and the Darling Downs District Dog Squad Officer in Charge Sergeant Trevor O’Neil visited Max to make good on a promise they made on social media. presenting the elderly pooch with a special collar and medallion becoming their first honorary police dog.
This pup will certainly have something to bark home about!
