Christmas is still months away, but for a 65-year-old father who is battling colon cancer, the family celebrated the holiday much earlier.
Andrew Heafner doesn’t know how much time he has left. He has refused dialysis and instead requested some seasonal cheer, even if it is the middle of summer. So his family threw him a Christmas in July party. They say the holiday is their favorite time of the year and it means so much being together for it, perhaps for one last time.
They strung lights and hung ornaments on a tree, all while wearing shorts and t-shirts instead of Christmas sweaters. All that was missing, Andrew says, was the eggnog.
But it’s a moment the Heafner's will all remember as being merry and bright during a difficult period for their family.
The family has also a started a GoFundMe page to help with Andrew’s cancer battle.
