Ariana Grande's latest project could have her turning green... quite literally.
The 24-year-old actress and pop star is reportedly in talks to play the role of Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked. The Sun is reporting that talks underway for Grande to take over the role, which is currently being portrayed by actress Jackie Burns. None of this news has been confirmed by either side.
The show is sort of a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. The show begins before (and continues after) Dorothy arrived in Oz. The show, which is currently the 6th longest-running show on Broadway, tells the story of Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glanida (who later becomes known as Glinda the Good Witch).
The role of Elphaba was originated by Idina Menzel in October of 2003.
This wouldn't mark Ariana's appearance on Broadway. She appeared as Charlotte, a cheerleader, in the musical 13, when it ran on Broadway for 105 performances in the fall of 2008. The show is the only Broadway musical to ever have a cast compromised entirely of teenagers.
Meanwhile, Ariana's brother, Frankie Grande, is returning to the stage. It was just announced that he will join the cast of Cruel Intentions Off-Broadway in the role of Blaine Tuttle.
