-- Red Sox prospect Chih-Jung Liu arrived at Red Sox spring training in Florida from Taiwan last week and was immediately quarantined in a hotel room amid fears about the coronavirus.

The 20-year-old posted on Facebook that he feels well and has been spending his time “watching information about the team,” weight training and reading.

A Red Sox spokesman told the Boston Globe the team is using “an overabundance of caution” when it comes to the coronavirus.

Liu is expected to join the team in a few days.

-- Luis Severino announced on Tuesday he will need Tommy John surgery for his elbow injury and will be shut down for this season.

The Yankees pitcher released a statement on Twitter about his decision.

Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek will perform the operation on Thursday at the Hospital For Special Surgery in New York.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "When you think of Tom, Tom’s always going to be a New England Patriot. He’s at that time in his life he still wants to play. It’ll be interesting from him to kind of explore and see what’s out there. I’m sure that’s exciting to him to kind of look around and see what’s available. I’m just glad that he’s thinking about playing again. He’s great for the game and he’s been great for this league.” -- John Elway, on Tom Brady
