Community Gives Little Boy Headed For Surgery His Very Own Halloween a Week Early

That little “Superman” riding in the fire truck is four-year-old Sonny Mead on a very important mission -- to get his trick or treating in before having surgery to correct a birth defect.

Not celebrating his favorite holiday, Halloween, was not an option for little Sonny or his family. So they rallied friends and dozens of Illinois neighbors who opened their doors to hand out candy a week early. He was even given a fire truck escort into the festivities!

Sonny was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis, which causes the bones in the skull to fuse prematurely. He is scheduled to have surgery today (October 26th).

Following the procedure, Sonny will be in the hospital for about a week and recovery is expected to take months, but at least he already has Halloween under her superhero belt.
