Library Waives Late Fee When It Gets Back 84-year-old Overdue Library Book

By Meredith Ganzman

A library just got back this 84-year-old overdue book.

A Louisiana man was cleaning out his late mother’s home when he found “Spoon River Anthology,” by Edgar Lee Masters.

His mom had taken out the book in 1934, when she was just 11-years-old.

And her son says he’s surprised she had forgotten to return it, because she was a very responsible woman.

The Shreve Memorial Library is just happy to have the first edition book back. Better late than never, they say. And they were happy to waive $3 dollar late fee.
