Carrie Underwood Announces She's Done Hosting the CMA Awards

Passing the torch... at least for now

It's hard to believe that it was 12 years ago that Carrie Underwood hosted the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley for the first time. Each year as the show approached we would eagerly anticipated their jokes and song parodies. We took bets on how many wardrobe changes that Carrie would go through.

It's equally hard to believe that the last CMA Awards that Carrie hosted with Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire was her last. The "Drinking Alone" singer has announced on social media that she's passing the torch to someone else, with a lengthy thank you and goodbye to the CMA Awards.

"It’s hard to believe that it was my 12th year hosting and I will always treasure every show, from the 11 that I was so lucky to do with my partner in crime and friend for life, Brad Paisley, to sharing the stage with two of my all-time heroes," she wrote. "I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone involved with the CMA Awards all these years."

This year's edition of the CMA Awards was a celebration of the women of Country music, with Carrie joined by the two icons for a tour through the fierce female history of Country music.

"It’s hard to imagine topping what we have accomplished together, so I’ve decided that it’s time to pass the hosting torch (at least for now!) to others that will cherish it and honor it as much as I do. I’ve got so many exciting things coming in the new year and beyond, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for all of us."

The Country Music Association (CMA) reposted the picture, adding "We love you, Carrie! You’ll always be family to us. Thanks for 12 amazing years hosting the CMA Awards. We look forward to working with you in 2020 and beyond to help spread Country Music to fans around the world!"

Underwood first hosted the CMA Awards in 2008 with Brad Paisley. She has won 9 CMA Awards, her first in 2006 for Female Vocalist of the Year.
