When Rosalie Grace was born unexpectedly at just 24 weeks while mom Shelcie Holbert was in New York City for a business trip, she weighed just 1 pound, 9 ounces.

Unprepared, alone, and still 17 weeks away from her due date, the 23-year-old new mother from North Carolina was overjoyed when some Manhattan moms offered to help. After she felt a strange feeling in her belly and getting herself to the hospital Holbert gave birth one week later, holding onto Rosalie Grace to give her a fighting chance at surviving the premature birth.

In the weeks that followed Shelcie and her husband Jacob, a U.S. Army veteran, were given a spare apartment to stay in while other local moms donated clothing, bought them dinner every day for two weeks, and even baked treats for them as well as the nurses providing round-the-clock care.

Rosalie Grace will likely be in the NICU at Mount Sinai West until October, and Shelcie is so grateful the Big Apple has shown her new family such incredible love.

The Holberts have since set up a GoFundMe donation page for Baby Rosalie.
