Operation Copsicle: Police Officers Give Out Cool Treats From Custom Ice Cream Truck

By Meredith Ganzman/Joe Cingrana

Officers of the Pittsfield Police Department in Massachusetts are cruising around in a cool, brand new vehicle. But it’s not what you might expect to see patrolling the streets.

Officers are keeping themselves and their community cool and comfortable while driving in an ice cream truck for what they call "Operation Copsicle" -- giving out free popsicles and ice cream to people in their community in order to help strengthen local ties.

Officers say they hope the initiative shows the public that behind every badge, there is a person just like them who they can share an ice cream with on a hot summer day.
