See Aftermath of Massive Steam Pipe Explosion

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  Several steam pipe explosions early Thursday morning are causing major delays in the Flatiron district of New York City.

The explosions happened at around 6:40 a.m. at 5th Ave and 21st Street.

Emergency crews are at the scene and several roads in the area are closed. There is no vehicular traffic on 34th to 5th Avenue and there are also several mass transit delays in the area.

The FDNY said it is a third alarm and smoke, at times. has been up to 15 feet high, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.

Con Ed told Papa that it was a main that ruptured. They said anyone who came into contact with the steam should clean or bag their clothes out of an abundance of caution since there could be asbestos in the smoke.

Cars are covered in soot, Papa reported.

One man told Papa his coworkers heard loud explosions in the area. 

So far, no injuries have been reported, Papa reported.
