The star of Netflix's new Feel The Beat, Sofia Carson, joined RADIO.COM's AJ Gibson and Mikalah Gordon on CHANNEL Q's The Morning Beat to discuss the making of the new film, plus shares her powerful statement on Pride.
The new Netflix original film is available now for streaming and is truly all about a feel-good moment. The Descendants star cheerfully tells AJ, "the movie is a celebration of joy, and hope and love... it's a homecoming. And more importantly, it just makes you smile... I hope that you smile as much as we did while making the film because I think we need that now more than ever."
Carson has always been supported by many fans in the LGBTQ+ community. The young actress knows the role she plays as an ally to the community, particularly for LGBTQ+ youth.
Sofia shares that she is not only inspired by the community but tells her LGBTQ+ fans, "I love you with all my heart, I am constantly inspired by you, by the hope you inspire in the rest of the world, the joy that your bring, the rainbow that you represent. We are standing with you, side-by-side, hand-in-hand." The Netflix star continues, "this month we celebrate you, but we continue to celebrate you every single month in my home and in my family and in everything that I do."
Sofia goes beyond Pride month to explain that uplifting LGBTQ+ youth must extend past the month of June and should be a daily practice. "It's been really inspiring to see the change that is happening, the change that is being accomplished," Carson says passionately. "I urge you and I know you're urging your loved ones, let's take to the polls, let's use our voice and lets vote."
