Wade Boggs is one of the most accomplished baseball players of all-time, we know this. Hall of Fame. World Series champion. Gold Gloves. Silver Sluggers. Twelve All-Star Game appearances. Not to mention his legendary beer-drinking tales.
He may just have more to add to the list, courtesy of “The Office” star B.J. Novak.
The Hall of Fame third baseman, who played for the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays, was seen with Novak — who played the character Ryan Howard (not the Phillies first baseman) on the hit NBC sitcom — at the actor’s 40th birthday party in a photo on Twitter.
So why in the world was Boggs at the actor’s birthday party?
The question led WEEI.com's Rob Bradford to issue a plea to Novak to appear on the Bradfo Sho podcast to discuss the dynamic. And while the former star of "The Office" declined the invitation to dive deeper into the Hall-of-Famer's invitation, a back-and-forth on Twitter did lead to one of the greatest compliments Boggs could receive.
The “bestest mensch,” of course, is the role of the best man that Jim had taken for Dwight’s bachelor party in “The Office” finale.
And while Boggs finished his career as a .328 career hitter, hitting "over .400 in the game of menschiness" is arguably the best analytic any former big leaguer could hope to receive.
For a man who claims to have drank 107 beers in a day and 64 on a cross-country flight, who knows what kind of “menschiness” Boggs was up to at Novak’s party.
