Many can easily recognize the classic Hershey's Kisses ad that broadcasts every year around the holidays - the kisses all lined up as they mimic bells to the tune of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Now, the ad takes a turn.

Here's a look at the original:

This year, the ad starts the same but ends with a twist as a father-and-daughter duo grabs one of the Kiss bells to add to their baking extravaganza.

Titled "Bells to Blossoms," the ad shows a child's hand as she reaches for one of the Kisses responsible for humming the tune "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Then, the child uses the Kiss to plop on top of one of her cookies.

The screen reads, "Heartwarming the holidays." The touching ad, however, angered internet warriors who claimed the original ad should have been run this year in lieu of the update.

"I don't mind an ADDITIONAL holiday commercial for Hershey's, but warping the classic bells commercial SUCKS!" one user wrote.

Another chimed in, "The perfect representation of 2020: completely ruined!"

Hershey's has taken to social media following the complaints, responding to many users with an apology for the disappointment they caused.

"We made the decision to make a slight update to the original that kept the opening holiday melodies and incorporated another holiday tradition, baking - melding together these two time-honored traditions," Hershey's said in a statement.

"From playing the bells to baking peanut butter blossoms, it's Hershey's Kisses that have stood the test of time," the statement continues.

"For viewers who love the original version — don’t worry, it hasn’t gone away for forever," Hershey's continued. "Our hope this season is that our updated version not only harkens back memories of the original Kisses bells tune but also brings the genuine feeling of heartwarming to life with images of holiday baking between a father and daughter."
