One lucky individual has many reasons to smile today — over 700 million reasons to be exact.
A single Powerball ticket worth $731.1 million hit the jackpot Wednesday morning, and while the identity of the winner has not been revealed, here’s what we know so far.
The winner of the fifth-largest Powerball prize in history hit it big by playing 40-53-60-68-69 with a Powerball number of 22.
CBS Baltimore reports that the winning ticket was sold at Coney Market in Lonaconing, Maryland. The small town in western Maryland is only a few miles from the state’s border with West Virginia. Another person also won the lottery in the Old Line State at the same time, scoring $2 million one county over in Hagerstown.
The winner of the $731 million prize has two options for collecting their winnings: they can either take a lump sum payment of $546.8 million now, or break it down into annuity payments, receiving an estimated $731.1 million over the next three decades.
While it is possible that the winner will come forward and share their news with the world, Maryland is one of the few states in the country where lottery winners are able to remain anonymous.
The Powerball jackpot has dropped back down to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing, but people who want to aim for a huge prize can switch over to the Mega Millions lottery, which currently has a jackpot of $970 million.
