July 20, 2020, is sure to be a day that one father-daughter Coast Guard duo won’t forget.
That’s when Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Jason M. Vanderhaden is expected to present the Silver Lifesaving Medal to his daughter, Petty Officer 2nd Class Victoria Vanderrhaden, in Mobile, Alabama, according to a release from the sea service.
A boatswain’s mate at Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Victoria Vanderhaden will receive the medal for saving two swimmers off the coast of Long Island Sound, New York in 2018.
The Silver Lifesaving Medal is awarded to any Coast Guard member who “rescues or endeavors to rescue any other person from drowning, shipwreck in waters within the United States or waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction,” the release reads.
Jason Vanderhaden is the senior-most enlisted member in the Coast Guard.
