'Tis the season for both gifting and giving. And while you may be spending the holiday season planning parties and events to spend with family or friends or buying gifts for loved ones, many community organizations who help veterans, need your help.
Whether it's sponsoring a military family in need or using your musical talents, there are organizations all over the country that give back to the veteran community-- here are a few places to check out:
Your local VA: Visit the Volunteer or Donate form on VA’s website to find an opportunity at your closest VA facility. There’s even a specific tool that shows the areas of need at each medical center and how you can contribute your time.
Habitat for Humanity: The Veterans Build program offers "volunteer, homeownership, and employment" to military members and their families. Whether it's participating in a long-term volunteer opportunity or helping a critical repair program for veterans, Habitat for Humanity offers various opportunities for veterans looking to give back to the community.
Soldiers Angels: They are involved in everything from providing 7,000 stuffed holiday stockings to deployed service members to adopting a military family through the holiday season, Soldiers Angels offer a breadth of resources to military members and their families. The organization allows individuals to volunteer funds or time to a number of their programs.
The Mission Continues: Veterans, Guard, and Reservists can participate in groups across the country with The Mission Continues through weekly, monthly, and quarterly events.
Team Red White and Blue: Though Team RWB, veterans have an opportunity to give back to their community while also engaging in physical and social activities.
USO: Give back to active duty service members by volunteering with the USO in a variety of ways during the holidays. There are almost 30,000 USO volunteers around the country and find the nearest USO center near you to search for opportunities.
