A national forest fire in El Dorado County is forcing evacuations in the area, KCRA reports.

Evacuations due to the Fork Fire are happening for Loon Lake, Gerle Creek, and Rubicon trail areas. Deputies in Placer County are also evacuating areas surrounding Hell Hole and French Meadows as a precaution.

The El Dorado National Forest Service says the Fork Fire, located off Wentworth Springs Road near Gerle Creek, has spread rapidly and has already burned at least 400 acres so far. It's moving toward the King Fire burn scar, which was left in September 2014 and suffered burns to 97,717 acres near Pollock Pines.

Tahoe National Forest tells KCRA that smoke is visible from West Shore Lake Tahoe, Tuckee, Alpine Meadows, Olympic Valley, Foresthill, and the Pacific Crest Trail.
