Billie Eilish has reached another major milestone -- her video for "bad guy" has officially reached 1 billion views on the platform. To celebrate, the brilliant minds at Google Creative Lab and YouTube are offering quite a unique experience.
You know all of those amazing fan covers of Billie's smash hit that you constantly search out? Well, search no more. Enter the "Infinite Bad Guy" project -- what they call "the world’s first infinite music video."
Let them explain:
To create this experience, Google Creative Lab had to perfectly align the audio from thousands of videos with different tempos, instruments, keys, and styles. Conventional algorithms couldn’t do the trick alone, so we turned to machine learning. For videos that deviated from the original track — like acoustic or a cappella versions — we built a neural network that could predict matches between covers and the original. With this data, we were able to line up all kinds of different covers, and switch seamlessly between them.
In a nutshell, what they have done is allow AI to collect and string together every single instance of the song's existence into one never-ending video loop. If you're into math, it would apparently take 1.46 * 10¹⁰⁰ years to watch to every possible combination of all of the "Bad Guy" covers in the project.
You can get the party started now on the app’s website with Billie's original video, and then pick and choose where you'd like your adventure to take you. Drum covers? A Capella? Toy instruments? Pets... You do you.
