The ATX Artic Tundra is starting to thaw from record breaking freezing temps. The all-time record was 140 consecutive hours below freezing at Camp Mabry (1983) - the end tally came to 144 straight hours from last Friday 2/12 to Thursday afternoon 2/18.

As the temps rise so will the the risk of thawed out lines and broken leaky pipes. Our friends at ABC Home & Commercial Services share great information and tips for frozen pipes, water heaters and more.

ABC’s general advice: Do not shut anything off unless it is absolutely necessary. This could be if you know you have a busted pipe, or if you see water coming in through the ceilings, walls, floors cabinets, or anywhere from the outside of your home.

What To Do For Each Situation
Do you have water? Yes.
Water Main & Faucets
Keep your water main and faucets open. For your faucets, make sure both the hot and cold valves are open and dripping water.
Tankless Water Heaters (Gas) Make sure there is a steady stream coming from your faucets to keep the water flowing through the unit.
Tank Water Heaters (Gas & Electric) Slow drip your hot faucet to keep water flowing through your pipes.

Water Main & Faucets
Keep your water main and faucets open so that when your water comes back on, you will know it and you will be able to bleed all air from piping. If you shut off your water main, it will trap water in the piping which could then freeze.
Tankless Water Heaters (Gas)
As long as you have power, leave it on.
Tank Water Heaters (Gas & Electric)
For gas, turn the thermostat to low. For electric, turn the power off.
