When asked about what has inspired him to begin prioritizing mental health awareness, Waka Flocka Flame was quick to share that the shift that the pandemic has brought on, made him more aware of the need for mental health resources.

RADIO.COM's I’m Listening initiative serves as a resource that not only sheds light on the importance of caring for our mental well-being, but also facilitates a space for people to talk, connect, and feel hard.

“Coronavirus definitely put me in a slump… it just let me know that I ain’t never get over nothing in my life… I always just put it so far in my head that I don’t want to think about it,” explains the rapper. However, as the pandemic has given Waka time to reflect he’s realized that taking care of how he’s feeling mentally is just as crucial as his psychical health.

While addressing his own mental health needs, the “I Remember” rapper has also been thinking about society’s access to mental health services. Flocka shared, “one day I just woke up and was just like yo I’m going to stand up for suicide prevention and mental health because there are a lot of people going through it, even the ones you think are smiling… they’re still hurting.”

On Wednesday, September 23, our I’m Listening broadcast will highlight powerful conversations around the idea that it's okay not to be okay. Hear from artists like, Waka Flocka Flame, who share their own advice and experiences about mental health and suicide prevention.

RADIO.COM’s I’m Listening initiative aims to encourage those who are dealing with mental health issues to understand they are not alone. If you or anyone you know is struggling with depression or anxiety, know that someone is always there. Additionally, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-273-8255.
