Kevin Hart has joined the cast of “Borderlands,” a movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise.

The film co-stars Oscar winner Cate Blanchett and will be helmed by Eli Roth, director of horror classics like “Cabin Fever” and “Hostel,” reported The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” Roth said in a statement. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”

The character of Roland is a former soldier turned mercenary and is said to be a more dramatic role for the comedian.

“Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games,” added Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane. “We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn’t be in better creative hands.”

Released in 2009, “Borderlands” is a role-playing first person shooter video game that has sold over 66 million copies and spawned several sequels. Most recently, "Borderlands 3" was launched in 2019 and recently released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

While exact details of the film have yet to be disclosed, it was previously revealed Blanchett will play Lilith, a Siren with magical powers.

In addition to his film career, Hart has recently been pursuing other creative endeavors.

The comedian, actor, and producer will release his debut children’s book, “Marcus Makes a Movie,” this summer on June 1, 2021.

The book, intended for middle-grade readers, follows a boy named Marcus who dreams of making a blockbuster superhero film.

The “Jumanji: The Next Level” star is definitely writing about what he knows!
