It’s pizza time at Panera!
The bakery cafe chain is rolling out flatbread pizzas on the menu, which will be available starting this week.
Customers will have the option of choosing from three different pizza options: plain cheese, Margherita, and chipotle chicken-bacon.
According to the press release, prices will start at $7.99.
Panera’s newly-appointed head chef, Claes Petersson, uses “extra finely ground flour for delicate yet crisp crust.”
The pizzas are also baked on a stone for extra crispiness before being topped by fresh mozzarella and herbs.
The cheese flatbread is the simplest with tomato sauce and a blend of finely shredded fontina and mozzarella cheeses.
The Margherita piece also consists of tomato sauce, red grape tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and a blend of finely shredded fontina and mozzarella cheeses.
The chipotle chicken is made with garlic cream sauce, tomatoes, smoked pulled chicken breast, applewood smoked pork bacon and a blend of finely shredded fontina and mozzarella cheese. It’s finished with cilantro and a drizzle of chipotle aioli.
"At Panera, baking is at the core of who we are and what we’re known for – we knew that we had all the elements to bring our delicious, hearty flatbreads to life,” Petersson said in the release.
Eduardo Luz, Panera’s brand and concept officer, said that customers have been asking for pizza to be added to the menu for “years.”
“Our guests choose Panera because they want to eat delicious food, that they can feel great about eating. Flatbread Pizzas – done the Panera way – are the perfect offering for this moment and beyond,” Luz said.
He anticipates the pizzas will become a “strong anchor” for the company’s dinner business.
