Major sports leagues are providing COVID-19 testing for thousands of athletes at a time when testing for the general public is limited nationwide.

D. Zachary Binney is Assistant Professor of Quantitative Theory and Methods at Emory University, and a leading epidemiologist.

He said that as testing and test results are lagging for the general public, major sports leagues are or will be ordering COVID-19 tests on a regular basis for their athletes.

"There’s no way to say that they are not taking away some lab capacity that could otherwise be used for the general public," said Dr. Binney.
