Susan Dell’Osso Dishes on River Islands Attractions With Foodie Chap Liam Mayclem

By KCBS All News 106.9FM and 740AM

I recently caught up with my friend Susan Dell’Osso, President of River Islands Development.

Susan and I had a chance to catch up on some of the headline news and exciting developments coming out of River Islands, a stunning master planned community in Northern California.

Read our conversation below.

Liam: Susan, let me congratulate you on River Islands being named to the Top Twenty List for master planned communities in America!  I’d love to call you an overnight success, but I know that you’ve been working on this project for most of your career.

Susan: It has taken almost 30 years to bring the vision of River Islands into reality… and we have another 15 years ahead of us, to achieve our goal of creating a truly great place to live, work, play, learn and belong.

Liam: On my visits there, I certainly have felt a wonderful sense of belonging.  There are so many things to do and see, and so many friendly faces.

Susan: And right now, neighbors are enjoying a socially distant get together on the deck of the Boathouse Restaurant and Pub…

Liam: One of my favorite places at River Islands…

Susan: They’re enjoying sharing outdoor spaces together, while staying 6 feet apart.  With parks, trails, bicycle paths, lakes and docks, people are enjoying the summer weather while staying safe.

Liam: I hear that River Islands is having its biggest year ever… with more than 100 homes purchased in June alone! What’s that about?

Susan: It’s the result of so many employers giving their people the opportunity to work from home, perhaps indefinitely. With no commute, and no reason to live close to the office, people are moving away from the congestion of the core Bay Area and out here, where the homes are big enough for a home office, or even two.

Liam: How big are the homes?

Susan: Currently there are seven neighborhoods of homes available, with about 1800 square feet to more than 4000!  So whether you are getting started or downsizing, we want to have something that fits everyone’s needs.

Liam: And the pricing is about half of what we’d see on the Bay Area, correct?

Susan: You took the words right out of my mouth. Prices start in the mid $400,000s.

Liam: I just saw a terrific video about live online learning for the students at the two schools at River Islands. It really looks like the teachers and students are creating a classroom experience, even at a distance.

Susan: We are so fortunate that we started the first school with digital devices for all the students. In the spring, when so many school districts were scrambling to catch up, we were able to make a smooth transition because we had already been online for years.

Liam: They say you make your own luck.  Sounds like hard work is the recipe behind River Islands’ success story. Congratulations!

Susan: Thanks, Liam. I’m looking forward to touring you around the community soon!

Liam: As long as I can sit by a lake with a lovely glass of wine. I enjoyed a phenomenal cab from Priest Ranch on my last visit!

Susan: My friend, we will have two new lakes to enjoy in 2021!

Liam: Cheers to that
