San Francisco‘s first day of outdoor haircuts was a busy one.
Eunice Kong manages Supercuts locations from San Francisco to San Jose across three counties with three distinct sets of rules.
Santa Clara and San Mateo counties allow indoor cuts. But not San Francisco, where people lined up outdoors for their first professional haircuts in months.
“They are coming with the quarantine hair, very long. It’s been a while and they are so very happy to be outdoors with us,” she said. “First three hours that I’ve been around after the opening we had roughly around 15 to almost 30 haircuts.”
Others showed up with botched at-home haircuts that needed fixing.
Kong says her staff was stocked up with PPE and trained in safety protocols with all workers and clients keeping their distance where possible and wearing masks.
The masks pulled double duty Tuesday, providing protection from both the virus and wildfire smoke.
Kong says she just hopes that she can move operations in San Francisco indoors before the rainy season hits. San Francisco County is currently aiming to allow personal services indoors by the end of September.
