Marin County is moving forward with reopening some personal care services outdoors, effective immediately.

That includes nail salons, massage therapy studios, esthetic services, cosmetology and skin care services. But county officials said Monday all services, either indoor or outdoor, for tattooing, piercing and electrolysis continue to remain closed because of Marin’s status on the state’s watch list.

"Since the beginning of our reopening process in early May, Marin Public Health has committed to moving at a sequential rate, guided by local COVID-19 data," said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin County’s Public Health Officer. "The recent decision to move hair salons outside showed that personal services can managed effectively outdoors."

Any of these businesses seeking to reopen must submit specific plans before doing so.

Effective immediately, #MarinCounty nail salons, massage, estheticians, cosmetology, and skin care businesses can reopen in an outdoor-only environment.----DETAILS: https://t.co/2JqqODqEMz pic.twitter.com/uLbprGUEH4

Last month, Marin's Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance covering possible fines for violating state or county orders on everything from face coverings to operating an Airbnb.

Marin was added to the state's watch list July 3.
