There's an even greater push this year than in years past for Californians to get a flu shot because of the ongoing pandemic.
Officials are concerned that hospital capacity could be stretched to its limits if more people seek medical care for the flu while simultaneously dealing with COVID-19 patients.
California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly says “just like wearing the mask. Just like remaining physically distanced. Just like reducing our mixing own mixing with groups we aren’t familiar with or don’t spend a lot of time with. Getting flu shots can be the ultimate protection.”
For those concerned that getting the flu shot means going into crowded health care environments where COVID may be spreading, Ghaly says “planning efforts by our hospital partners, our clinic partners, many provider groups across the state, to provide flu vaccines in lower risk yet convenient ways, is tremendous.”
The California Hospital Association has also created a website with information about the flu vaccine and where to get it.
