4-year-old girl drowns on Thanksgiving at Point Reyes National Seashore

A 4-year-old girl has died after drowning on Thursday off McClures Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., a 911 call was received about a child being swept by a wave into the ocean, according to a news release sent via email by the National Park Service.

Both California Highway Patrol and Reach One helicopters were dispatched to the scene along with National Park Service Rangers.

The girl was transported to Oakland Children’s Hospital and was later pronounced dead. The father, who went into the water after his daughter, was transported to Petaluma Regional Hospital and treated for hypothermia.
