Staff member for Gov. Newsom tests positive for COVID-19, other staff in quarantine

An unidentified member of Gov. Gavin Newsom's staff has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting other members of the governor's staff to quarantine.

A spokesman for the governor confirmed to KCBS Radio late Wednesday the staff member has not been around Gov. Newsom or his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

It's not clear if the individual has shown or experienced any symptoms. It was also not immediately known how many members of the staff are in quarantine.

Gov. Newsom and his family are currently in the midst of their own quarantine in their Sacramento home after one of his kids was exposed to someone who later tested positive for the virus. He and his family have tested negative.

The news comes as California set a single-day record Wednesday for new coronavirus cases, reporting more than 20,000.
