Originally just scheduled for weekdays, motorists who use the Beaver Valley Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will now need to find an alternate route on weekends for a few weeks.

The turnpike closed the interchange, exit 13, Monday for a resurfacing project.

However, after work began, crews determined that the scope of the project needed to be adjusted and would require closing the interchange on weekends as well.

Crews will be replacing shoulders and resurfacing the on and off ramps.

Drivers that would normally use the interchange to get on or off the turnpike should use the New Castle Interchange. There will also be periods of time where route 18 between Fairlane Boulevard and Wallace Run Road will be down to a single lane.

The work is expected to be completed by October 9. Check traffic on the KDKA Radio Waze map before heading out of the road.
