Butler Health System Announces Nearly 60 Layoffs Due To COVID-19 Strain

BUTLER, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Butler Health System announced Monday 57 layoffs and 10 furloughs due to increased costs and decreased revenues as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the health system says it has lost “tens of millions of dollars over the past several months.”

Positions will be affected across the entire health system. Including the pending closure of the BMH’s skilled nursing facility.

Additionally around 60 vacant positions will not be filled.

Butler Health Systems says they have been in “regular contact” with state and federal officials and is working to “assure that members of Congress understand the financial devastation that Covid-19 has caused almost all hospitals and health systems, including Butler Health System, and its 2 hospitals, Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital.”
