PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The Gateway toll plaza on the Greensburg Bypass looks a little different. The interchange near the Ohio border on Route 66 has gone cashless.
“We will not be accepting cash at Gateway anymore so you just have to remember to keep moving through the lane,” said the Turnpike Commission’s Carl DeFebo.
“We will capture an image of your license plate and send you a TOLL-BY-PLATE bill in the mail.”
Those TOLL-BY-PLATE users will also pay more. It will now cost drivers without E-ZPass $12.20 to enter Pennsylvania, up from $7.90.
Those motorists will still need to stop for a ticket at the next plaza.
The E-ZPass toll is up 40 cents to $5.90 at Gateway.
The interchange is exempt from the 6 percent toll increase slated for the rest of the Turnpike in 2020.
