Liquor Control Gives Out More Violations To Pittsburgh Area Businesses

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There was another round of compliance checks for businesses across Pennsylvania, and it wrapped up on Friday, September 4.

Pittsburgh was the most inspected area.

After having the most violations in the last round, Pittsburgh was also tied for the most violations this time, having received two (Harrisburg also received two).

Pittsburgh led the way with the most checks and warnings at 306 and eight, respectively.

Pittsburgh area businesses received 100% more checks than the next highest area, which was Wilkes-Barre with 153.

A total of 1,146 checks were conducted in nine different city regions: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Altoona, Wilkes-Barre, Punxsutawney, Erie, Williamsport, Harrisburg, and Allentown.

Five violations and 28 warnings were given out across the board for failure to adhere to pandemic requirements.

The newest wave of investigations into COVID-19 safety protocol were performed over a two-span span on Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3.

The investigations are still open, so the business names will remain withheld.

But the nature of the warnings can be viewed on the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement website.

As a reminder, the checks come unannounced and can arrive randomly at establishments across Pennsylvania.

During the compliance checks, the following requirements are being watched for:
  • Require all customers to wear masks while entering, exiting or otherwise traveling throughout the restaurant or retail food service business (face masks may be removed while seated). Further, employees are required to wear masks at all times.
  • Provide at least six feet between parties at tables or physical barriers between customers where booths are arranged back to back.
  • Ensure maximum occupancy limits for indoor and outdoor areas are posted and enforced.
