WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - U.S. Representative Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania is calling on Congress to withhold funding from the World Health Organization until the Director-General resigns.

The lawmaker from PA’s 14th district introduced the resolution Tuesday that also calls for an international investigation into the organization’s role in what he calls the Chinese Communist Party’s cover-up of their COVID-19 response.

“The WHO helped the Chinese Communist Party hide the threat of COVID-19 from the world and now more than 10,000 Americans are dead, a number that is expected to rise dramatically in the coming weeks,” said Reschenthaler in a statement. “The United States is the largest contributor to WHO. It is not right that Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars are being used to propagate China’s lies and hide information that could have saved lives. This bill will hold the WHO accountable for their negligence and deceit.”

President Trump tweeted about the situation on Tuesday:

The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?
