PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Lock and Dam 2 on the Allegheny River has reopened.

It was closed for most of the summer for a $6.6 million rehabilitation project.

The 87-year-old lock near Highland Park is the busiest for recreational boaters in the area.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repaired crumbling walls of the lock chamber, and says the project will bring more than 160 million dollars in commercial and recreational benefit to the region.
