HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – State Rep. Jake Wheatley will introduce legislation that would eliminate penalties and fees for delayed sales tax payments from bars, restaurants, and taverns, as well as provide a grace period for paying the liquor sales tax.
Rep. Wheatley said that these businesses that closed their doors for months in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 deserve the break.
“It’s imperative that restaurants, bars and taverns be given a financial break for being responsible and doing their part during the state’s emergency declaration,” Wheatley said. “With many of these businesses beginning the process of reopening, removing these additional fees would give them some additional breathing room and go a long way to help them recover from their losses and get back on their feet.”
In May, Rep. Wheatley and Rep. Dan Deasy sent a letter to Governor Wolf asking that liquor licenses fees be waived for restaurants and bars to help these businesses during the pandemic.
