Westbound PA Turnpike Closures In Effect Over Weekend

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The PA Turnpike be closed westbound between the Pittsburgh, Exit #57, and Allegheny Valley, Exit #48, interchanges starting at midnight on Saturday, November 2nd until 5 a.m. on Sunday, November 3rd.

Eastbound travelers in this section of the Turnpike will be restricted to a single lane during this closure. 

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commissions said that the closure is in effect so that workers can place bridge beams for the new bridge that will replace the Saltsburgh Road Bridg in Plum Borough. 

Traffic on the current Saltsburg Road Bridge will not be affected during the closure.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commissions has issued the following detour for westbound drivers: 

Exit at Pittsburgh Interchange and travel:

  • I-376 west (16 miles) to
  • I-279 north (Ft. Duquesne Bridge), bear right on bridge to
  • State Route 28 north (23 miles) to
  • Harmarville Exit, State Route 910 east (.1 mile)
  • Left onto Freeport Road (.7 mile)
  • Reenter I-76 at the Allegheny Valley Interchange, Exit 48
  • Follow signs to Ohio and west.

Drivers are advised to expect higher traffic volumes while following detour routes.
