HARRISBURG, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - You can once again obtain a REAL ID from PennDOT drivers license centers.

In March, the state temporarily stopped issuing the IDs due to the CVOID-19 pandemic.

REAL IDs are an option in Pennsylvania, not a requirement by the state. The REAL IDs are a federally accepted form of identifcation for federal purposes.

To get a REAL ID, you must present proof of your identity, such as a birth certifcate or a U.S. passport. You must also have prof of your social security number, two proofs of your current Pennsylvania address and proof of any legal name changes.

The federal government pushed back its enforcement of the use of REAL IDs to October 2021.
