Pittsburgh Ranked 5th Gloomiest City In U.S.

(Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh is some place special but it is also very gloomy according to a new study.

Best Places ranks the Pittsburgh area as the 5th gloomiest metro area in the country.

Data experts at Best Places looked at the percentage of cloud cover, average hours of daylight and days with precipitation to come out with an overall score out of 100.

The Top 10 Gloomiest Cities with Gloom Score

  • Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA - 90.90
  • Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, OR-WA - 88.20
  • Buffalo-Cheektowaga-Niagara Falls, NY - 88.03
  • Cleveland-Elyria, OH - 83.72
  • Pittsburgh, PA - 80.17
  • Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI - 78.03
  • Columbus, OH - 70.60
  • Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis, WI - 70.25
  • Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI - 68.00
  • Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH - 67.80

Best Places says that some towns like Juneau and Ketchikan in Alaska are pretty gloom buat are not a part of the 50 metro areas in the country so they didn’t make the list.
