PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - An employees at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a release, the zoo says the person was asymptomatic and was tested after an extended family member tested positive.
The employee has not been on zoo property since June 23.
“Out of an abundance of caution, any employees that interacted with this individual were immediately quarantined,” the zoo said in a statement.
Employees at the zoo are required to follow safety guidelines while on duty including wearing a mask, regularly washing hands and not reporting to work if feeling any symptoms of an illness.
The zoo reopened early in June and introduced a new time-ticketing system.
There are also new modifications at the park, including the closure of playground areas, no tram service, limited capacity within the park, social distancing markers throughout the park, installed plexiglass barriers, closure of the log ride and zip line, and single queuing lines.
