WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - President Donald Trump has approved a disaster declaration in Pennsylvania, ordering federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Federal funds will now be available to the commonwealth and to local governments and certain private non-profits for protective measures that include direct Federal assistance for all areas of the state impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
“We are grateful for federal funding that will support all levels of government as we work together to stop the spread, and support those who care for the ill,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “But I remain unwavering in my call for the approval of the rest of my request, which will provide more direct support to our friends and neighbors who are facing financial difficulties that otherwise could be insurmountable.”
On Monday, Gov. Wolf announced counties under a Stay-at-Home order will be in effect through at least April 30.
Wolf also announced that schools will be closed indefinitely.
The commonwealth announced 693 new cases to bring the state’s total to 4,087 in 59 counties.
