PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Sewickley Bridge is now closed around the clock between for the next 24 days.
PennDOT says the around the clock closure will “minimize traffic impacts, improve safety and take advantage of lower traffic.”
PennDOT adds the 24-day complete closure will shave off as many as six days of additional closure.
The $3.69 million project includes work on a deck overlay, bearing and deck joint replacement, and other miscellaneous construction activities.
PennDOT District Supervisor Cheryl Moon Ciriani says they must finish this work first, before their next big project can begin.
“So we figure let’s get the Sewickley Bridge done, out of the way and then when we do the Neville Island Bridge, it will be smooth sailing,” said
The Sewickley Bridge sits over the Ohio River and connects Route 65 in Sewickley and Route 51 in Moon Township.
The entire project is expected to wrap up in late November.
